Living with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can be a complex journey, filled with ups and downs. Today, I’d like to share my experience with ADHD medication over the past two years. My hope is to provide clarity and insight for anyone facing similar challenges.
The Initial Journey
When I first began taking medication for ADHD, I had high hopes. I thought these medications would unlock my potential and transform my life. I started with Adderall, which is a common ADHD medication. Initially, I felt a sense of newfound clarity and focus. However, as I continued my treatment, I experienced some challenges.

I later transitioned to Vyvanse, which has fewer side effects for me compared to Adderall. This change made a significant difference in my daily life. I worked at a production company and found that the more collaborative environment helped me manage my symptoms.

Working at a production company introduced me to an open-office environment. This setup encouraged constant interaction and collaboration. I noticed that the social stimulation helped me feel more engaged, reducing my dependence on medication.
I decided to experiment with stopping my medication to see how I would fare without it. Surprisingly, it turned out well! The supportive and dynamic atmosphere kept me motivated. I found that my newfound confidence allowed me to focus and manage my tasks effectively.
Reflecting on Life Without Medication
Now, it’s been about a year since I stopped taking medication. While I do experience less consistent focus than when I was on medication, I feel more sociable and in control. This balance has its pros and cons.

ADHD is an evolving condition. Everyone’s journey is unique. It’s essential to recognize that what works for one person may not work for another.
The Spectrum of Opinions on ADHD Medication
Throughout my journey, I have received mixed feedback from viewers. Some say, “Medications are dangerous!” while others insist, “They changed my life!”
I don’t align strictly with either camp. My experience has been nuanced. Medications can be beneficial, but they are not the solution for everyone. It’s crucial to find what works for you.
Trust Yourself in Your Journey
If you’re considering medication for ADHD, here’s my advice: Be compassionate with yourself. Some days will be challenging, and that’s okay. Recognizing your struggles is part of the process.
Understand that ADHD can feel overwhelming at times, but it doesn’t define your potential. You might find that daily fluctuations are natural. Take it one day at a time.
